DF95 Canterbury Champs 12/13 April 2025 – Event Report

Pegasus Radio Sailing Club (PRSC) hosted 16 competitors in this event.

All regions in the South Island were represented with sailors from Otago, Cromwell, Nelson and Pegasus clubs attending.

Both days had fine weather conditions, however large variation in breeze.

Saturday gave the Race Officer (Gareth) and boatman (Paul) numerous headaches as the light 5 -8 knot wind swung through the day from N to NE to SE and back to NE.

Despite this, 14 single heat races were achieved on that day, and concluded with “analysis” of the day at “The Good Home”

Day 2 as forecast, had more consistent but stronger winds, with most starting with B rigs and by days end a number had their C rigs on. A real contrast in conditions but testing many skills, while experiencing fantastic downwind runs, and different tactics such as whether to gybe around rather than risk a missed tack.

A further 13 races rounded out the event to 27 in total with some numerous close battles, but particularly the podium winners, with the event ultimately decided in the final race.

It was noteworthy that three different clubs were represented in those 3 medal winners:
