The Gulf Harbour Radio Yacht club welcomed 29 competitors from through-out the North Island to compete in the 2025 North Harbour IOM Champs.
The venue in Regency Park Drive Lake offers good parking for cars and easy access to launch and retrieve the yachts.
The HMS scoring system was used which required B and A heats finishing up with 13 races held over the two days.
On Saturday sailing started in fresh North Easterly winds with some competitors switching to B rigs in one early heat, then quickly changing back to A rig for the remainder of the event. Sunday saw the wind swing slightly further to the east as the day progressed, which at times made for winds becoming shifty this testing the competitors, who also had to endure two very heavy showers.
Rob Nelson showed his class leading the fleet with a final score of 36 points, followed Tony Hay on 62 and Roddy Booth on 65.
On Saturday after racing many competitors met Ripples Café and Bar for a few beers, and on Sunday racing was followed with beers and a BBQ and presentation of the trophy to Rob Nelson and the awarding of the 1st, 2nd and the 3rd medals.
A very big thank you must go out the clubs, officials and volunteers, who contributed to the organisation and the running of the event.
Thankyou.
