The regatta was held at Best Island Pond in Richmond. The venue looked resplendent. A big thankyou to all who have put in a lot of hard work to get it looking like this.
Racing started on Saturday at approximately 11.15am with a westerly course.
The wind settled into a steady Northerly course for the rest of the day, giving the sailors perfect sailing conditions. We sailed 18 races on day 1 with sailing concluding for the day at 5pm.
The second day of the regatta started on schedule at 11am and we were able to get 14 races completed before concluding at 3pm as per the regatta rules. By the end of the day the wind was more shifty and stronger.
My observations for both days were:
After sustenance and a break, sailing was much more focussed.
A 270 is not a 360 penalty. A 360 includes a tack and a gibe or vice versa. There were some reinventions of such!!!
It was good to see most sailors taking their penalties after acknowledging their infringements even when they were not called by other competitors or observers. That’s really good sportsmanship.
Thankyou to our Observers and Scorers. You are all an important part of the team so everything runs smoothly. As it did!
Congratulations to our winners and our participants
A big thankyou to our visitors from other clubs who made the effort to travel to our event. We look forward to meeting you again in the near future. (Ps Bring your sailing friends).
A most enjoyable regatta.
