The 2022 Waikato Champs have been run with 10 races being completed over two days.
Day 1
Only two seeding heats completed due to fog, no wind, rain and no wind.
Day 2
9 races completed in light to medium A rig.
I would like to congratulate Ian Vickers, Rob Nelson and Grant Nixon for coming g 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. As well as Bob Senior 1st over 70 sailor, Barry Agar 1st Woodie and John Robb 1st classic boat.
I would also like to thank Mark Jenkins, Jill Winchester and Roy Champion for assisting in the running of the event, without people like this giving their time, events don’t happen.
The behaviour on the water this weekend was the best I have seen in a long time. Turns were being done, protests called respectfully, and some of the quietest IOM racing I can recall in a long time. It was a great spectacle today with quite a number of general public watching and enquiring about out sport. The competitors should be extremely proud of the way the regatta was sailed. I look forward to this being the new norm for IOM regattas.
