DF65 NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP – FINAL RESULTS and RO REPORT

The 2024 DF65 North Island Championship was held at Wattle Farm across a blustery weekend. The wind was straight down the lake…12-18 knot SSW on the Saturday, and 15-25 knots SSW on the Sunday.
A+ rigs were the go on Saturday morning, with most of the fleet dropping to A rig as the day passed. At the end of Day 1 ChrisW from NP held a dominant 10 point lead over SteveF (Wattle) , RodM (Waiheke) third, and GrantL (Wattle) 22 points adrift in 4th.
Sunday dawned with passing showers and a little more wind…and B Rigs were the order of the day. The morning belonged to ChrisW, but after lunch something clicked in GrantL’s world, and 5 straight wins had him take the title by a single point on the last race of the day.
Congratulations to Grant Lane, the 2024 DF65 NI Champ, Chris Wischnowski (NPRYC) 2nd, and fellow NP sailor Toby Lecher with a very consistent regatta to finish 3rd.
The regatta was sailed in very good humour, with profuse apologies heard after each protest call, and contrite excuses exchanged after the races. There wasn’t a single General Recall in the competition, and even OCS calls were sparse in comparison to other regattas.
Well done to all the participants… even the RO enjoyed the regatta 
Thanks to Ross McClew (associate RO), John Porter (Scorer and result taker), and Kerry Earl for a most excellent BBQ lunch and Sunday Breakfast effort…(including donating a fingertip while chopping onions Sunday morning…ending his hopes of continued competing!)
