IOM Ranking System 2023
Greetings IOM Sailors
The NZL IOMNCA wish to advise the NZRYA National Ranking Policy has been
replaced with an updated IOM Ranking System 2023.
Some of the system terminology has been updated and the size of the document has
been reduced with a view to making it easier to read and understand.
The IOM Ranking System 2023 commences from the first IOM ranking regatta
following the 2022 IOM Nationals. That is, the upcoming 2022 Top of the South
Championship at Nelson.
One of the changes is the introduction of the race officer receiving a ranking regatta
score. The race officers ranking regatta score is the average of the race officers
three most recent IOM regatta ranking scores.
Other changes include a reduction in the regatta scoring weightings. The maximum
points available for the Nationals is now 150 (down from 200) and SI and NI Champs
now 125 (down from 150).
Because the regatta weightings have changed, the NCA has determined the ranking
schedule would start from scratch from the first ranking regatta following the 2022
Nationals.
One of the purposes of the IOM Ranking System is to identify the annual NZL IOM
Ranking Champion at the conclusion of each year’s National Championship Regatta.
In short, a national ranking score is calculated using the sum of a competitors best 4
ranking regatta scores up to and including the year’s Nationals (only one of either the
North Island or South Island Champs can be scored).
The IOM ranking schedule will continue to be updated on the NZRYA website
following each ranking regatta.
Please read the attached IOM Ranking System 2023 document for more detail.
Regards
Graham Cross
