Visitors Day at Gulf Harbour.
A most enjoyable afternoon with visitors from Waiheke and Wattle Farm.
18 competitors in a relaxed and fun afternoon of racing.
Thanks to Harold B and Paul P for controlling the day and to Peter S for all his help.
Watching a good fleet of DF95’s sailing on Regency Lake in a good 10-12 South wind that threw enough switches that made you keep your eye on the ball was great.
From Waiheke:
Gulf Harbour visit, 4 WIRYC members ventured into unknown waters for the first time in our clubs history, Barry and Paul by car and Ken and I by way of ferry, easy peasy, we were greeted at the ferry terminal by world famous international yacht designer Ray Beale who then transported us to the Regency Lake, What a fantastic venue, We met the commodore of Gulf Harbour and then were briefed by the RO the legendary Harold Bennet who did a fantastic job keeping the skippers in line. We sailed against some of the very best skippers from Gulf Harbour, Wattle farm and Ruakaka. We all sailed well and were competitive around mid fleet. The highlight of the day was a victory for one of our team and some other good results. What we learnt today was, have a fast boat, get a very good start, dont make any mistakes, go the right way and keep out of trouble, do this consistently and your in the money, really quite simple after all. A fantastic day was had by all, cant wait for our next trip, Glenn WIRYC captain.
