Race Officers Report – 2022 IOM North Harbour Provincial Championship

Race Officers Report – 2022 IOM North Harbour Provincial Championship

The 2022 IOM North Harbour Provincial Championship was held at Regency Lake, Gulf Harbour,
Auckland on Saturday 19 th of February and Sunday 20 th February 2022.
The regatta was organised under the overall authority of the New Zealand Radio Yachting Association
(NZRYA) and conducted by the Gulf Harbour Radio Yacht Club (GHRYC) and its duly appointed Race
Committee in conjunction with the NZL IOM NCA.
Conditions on the Saturday were North to North-East 2-6 knots. North to North-East is a favourable
wind direction for Regency Lake and this plus the wind strength allowed for a single fleet of 17 boats.
While the start of racing was postponed for 30 minutes to allow the wind to fill in on the course, racing
got underway at 10:30 AM. A break for lunch was taken at 12:30 and racing then continued until 3:00
PM which was the scheduled time in the NOR for the completion of racing.
16 races were completed by 3:00 PM with Ian Vickers, Graeme Clough and Brett May at the top of the
leader board.
Conditions for the Sunday were 2 to 5 knots from the North-West veering to the North. Racing got
underway at the scheduled start time in winds at the lighter end of the scale. Despite the wind coming
and going several times during the day resulting in several postponements a further 12 races were
completed by the scheduled time in the NOR for the completion of racing. Congratulations to Ian
Vickers, Brett May and Graham Clough to taking out the first 3 places respectively.
Thanks to the many GHRYC members who assisted with the running of the event and made the RO’s
job easy and a pleasure to do.
