Waiheke Island Radio Yacht Club has a race programme that consists of 3 different series (including a “Rum Race” and handicap) a week, normally Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, rotated around full tide times as our sailing sites are tidal coastal bays. Currently we use 2 bays where we have permanent courses set up but are looking at other sites and once the proposed marina is finished, we may have that as another option.
The race programmes are divided into 4 seasonal series – Summer, Autumn , Winter and Spring. We also have other 1 off events planned such as a 2 Km coastal sail around 2 bays where there is a promenade to walk along the shore while racing.
We have 2 divisions:
- 1. “A” Division – Experienced sailors (currently 15 members)
- 2. “B” Division – Beginners and casual sailors (14)
Currently we race DF 65s and there are a few members keen to start a fleet of DF 95s. This would provide a good opportunity to connect with other clubs racing the same designs and hopefully at some stage host visiting sailors.
