Established in 1993, TRSC relocated to The Lakes area in 2009 to utilise the expansive man-made lake, which has since become a hub for various waterborne sports, including RC sailing and dragon boats. We have proudly hosted the IOM New Zealand National Championships in 2010, 2014, and most recently in 2023, attracting top-tier sailors from around New Zealand and overseas and enthusiastic spectators. At Easter 2025, we will also be hosting the DF65 National Championships.

As of 2025, our membership has grown to nearly 60 active sailors, with many participating in multiple weekly sessions. We also have active groups in the Katikati/Waihi area (Lake Gilmour), Rotorua region (Lake Okareka), and Papamoa, primarily sailing DF65 and DF95 yachts.

Our race calendar features events such as the Bay of Plenty IOM and DF65 Championships in the latter part of the year, the Burnsco All Classes Regatta typically held in February, and a 5-hour endurance race for IOMs and DF65s usually in October. Additional events are organised as needed or upon request.

The venue boasts a spacious jetty for easy boat launching and retrieval. A walking track encircles the lake, providing excellent visibility of the course and accessibility for all members, including those using powered wheelchairs.

In 2023, we celebrated our 30th anniversary, marking three decades of sailing excellence and community engagement.

Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or new to radio sailing, we invite you to join us at The Lakes. Experience the thrill of sailing in a friendly and inclusive environment.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Tauranga Radio Sailing Club in the sunny Bay of Plenty—an easy drive from anywhere within the North Island.
