125TH REGATTA AND OPEN DAY

CHISTCHURCH MODEL YACHT CLUB

125 YEARS OF MODEL YACHTING IN CHRISTCHURCH!
On 17 June 1898 a group of Christchurch gentlemen formed the Christchurch Model Yacht Club.
Amazingly, 125 years later, the club is still going strong, and racing regularly at Lake Victoria,
Christchurch, making it the second oldest model yacht club in the world.
To celebrate, on the exact anniversary, the Club is holding an Open Day and Regatta.
Modern and historic boats will be on display, and sailing on the lake in a series of events. The main
event, Founders’ Trophy, will be started with a ceremonial cannon and is open to all classes.
The Club’s Patron, Mayor Phil Mauger, will officiate by unveiling a commemorative plaque.
Members will offer ‘Have a Try’ sailing to anyone interested.
Food and beverages will be available.
The Club invites all model yachters to join the event on 17 June.
Model yacht building and racing is undergoing a resurgence, partly as a result of interest generated
by high profile events such as Sail GP and Americas Cup.
