Scale Replica of Shamrock 111

You may recall the model J class hull pic I sent you a few months back. Thanks for your willingness to share the pics on your website. I asked your members if they had any knowledge of what the boat might be. A number of people got back to me with some helpful comments but nothing that revealed it’s origins. I did reconnect with some old school / sailing friends as well, one of whom gave me vital advice on Radio Control equipment.

I’ve since discovered that the model is a scale replica of Shamrock 111, Sir Thomas Lipton’s challenger for the 1903 America’s Cup (William Fyfe designer). She is 1220 mm loa. She measures 10mm wider on the deck at every station than the Canterbury J Class rules allow.
I fitted her out with a modest rig at 1400mm mast height.

I’ve added 500 grams of lead to the keel and increased the rudder area by 100%.

Please see some updated images of my progress on the conversion of this model to RC plus my rig and sail additions.

I have fitted this model with RC equipment. A lever type sail control powered by a large 6 volt servo and a smaller servo for rudder control.
