2026 Northland IOM Champs

One week to go and all looking good for the Northland IOM Champs at Lake Manuwai run by Kerikeri Radio Yacht Squadron.

Ian Vickers will be sadly missed having sailed in this regatta for over 20 years and I think wining the event at least 10 times.

The cup is up for grabs but only to the one who sails clean and is strategically clever to negotiate the shifty wind at Lake Manuwai as Ian has shown in the past competitions.

With 28 entries in the regatta racing will be tough. Top ranking sailors Reuben Muir and Ian Power will be fiercely challenged by local sailors Erle Williams and Roddy Booth. Also, world representative sailor Colin Cashmore will be lurking in the background ready to pounce when any opportunity arrives.

With international judge and umpire John Rountree on the race committee it will be best that competitors swat up the rule book to avoid any costly penalties.

Roy Granich will also be at the event using the SHRS software programme for race management and scoring who has spent hours of his time on the computer developing the software.

Now the wind prediction is in a perfect direction of Northwest 5-15 knots, so all are looking forward to a fun regatta.
